For it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than holocausts.
(Hosea 6:6)

RCIA

RCIA will be starting on September 22nd! RCIA is the normal means for an adult to enter the Catholic church; it is also an excellent way for Catholics to learn more about their church and their faith. RCIA is open to all adults who want t grow in faith and understanding of the church. If you or someone you know is interested in attending RCIA, interested in being on the RCIA team, in sponsoring a candidate this year, or would simply like to know more about the process, please contact Richard Gross at 679-8974 or richard@richardgross.net. Watch the bulletin and www.ollraytown.com for more information. The first planning meeting for RCIA team members will be held very soon, and classes begin in mid-September.

Parish School of Religion

The Parish School of Religion (PSR) will begin Wednesday, September 15th with final registration and orientation in the Parish Hall. For more information or to register, contact Donna Morales in the parish office or oll.dm@comcast.net.  Please register by Sept. 8th.

Confirmation 2010

Rehearsal for Confirmation is Sunday, September 12 following the 10:30 Mass at St. Bernadette’s, 9020 E. 51st Terrace. Candidates and their sponsors (or a parent) should attend. Please note this is a TIME CHANGE.

Confirmation 2011

High school students who have not yet been confirmed will receive information regarding Confirmation preparation in October. This will be mailed to registered parishioners with high school age children. Please make sure your family is registered to ensure receiving this important information.

OLL Heritage Festival

OLL Heritage Festival is October 10th and planning is now in progress. We need volunteers to assist in booths, ticket sales, set-up and tear down. We are also looking for new booth ideas for this year. If interested in getting involved, please call Katei Gross at 816-547-0016 or email oll.dm@comcast.net.

Blood Money: The Business of Abortion

This documentary narrated by Dr. Alveda King, examines the history of abortion in America, from the inception of Planned Parenthood and the profitability of abortion clinics, to Roe V. Wade, to the denial of when life begins, to the fight to save the lives of innocent babies, to the devastating effects abortion has had on the women who have had them. Join us Sunday, September 19, 2:00 pm, Parish Hall. It is not enough to be against abortion. As a Christian, you must be armed to defend life. Save the date and come!

More than 210 of you promised to pray for an unborn baby and his or her mother during the next nine months. Thank you and God bless you.

New Gardens!!!

Have you seen what’s going on  at the School and the Parish grounds? If not, come over to the Parish Office and take a look! You will be delighted to see the beginnings of two beautiful prayer gardens for our parishioners and students! Come See!!!

Jigsaw Puzzles

Our Lady of Lourdes, in conjunction with the Stained Glass Association of America, presents a series of puzzles as a parish fund raiser. The first in the series, “Faces of Mary,” will be for sale at the Heritage Festival and is available at the parish office for only $20.

Play Group!

Are you at home with a baby or toddler too young for pre-school? If you are interested in a baby play group that meets once a week for an hour at the Parish Hall for play time and adult conversation, call parishioner Mary Monnin at 356-9453

 Pro-Life Ministry

Abortion providers have admitted that when people are praying and witnessing in front of an abortion mill such as Planned Parenthood that 30% of their appointments don’t show up.  Many women have admitted that if someone would have been praying outside the day they had their abortion, they would never have aborted their baby.  It is time to go to an abortion mill to be witness and pray that babies will be saved.  Some of us from OLL pray weekly in front of Planned Parenthood, 4401 Roe Avenue, Overland Park, KS.

Eucharistic Adoration - Adorers Needed

Eucharistic Adoration is held at OLL every Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. with Benediction following.  If you can commit to be in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for one hour, please call Ellen Newman at 921-2710.  Could you not keep watch for one hour?”  Mark 14:37

Good News for OLL!

Lighthouse Catholic Media CDs are now available in the kiosk in the back of the church on the north table.  These CDs come highly recommended as being most interesting and helpful for one’s spiritual life.  The suggested donation for the CDs is $3.00.  The slot for the donations is on the right side of the kiosk, so you can obtain CDs at any time.  Visit the kiosk frequently, as it will continually be restocked with different CDs.

Mass Intentions

Reminder:  Mass intentions may be requested for living or deceased family, friends or parishioners by calling the Parish Office at 353-2380.  A $10 donation is requested for each Mass.

OLL’s Recycling Program

Help the Earth and Support Our Lady of Lourdes PTO program

Last year, our recycling program raised over $1,000

Place bagged empty aluminum can in front of the school on the corner wall where the picnic tables are.

Donating helps us create a “green solution” for recycling your aluminum cans instead of throwing them away.  Plus, it’s a great way to stand out by showing others you do your part to reduce waste and donate charitably.

This program will not be successful without the support of the community. Thank you for your help in recycling

Hope Cards

What are HOPE Cards?

Hope Cards (formally known as “Scrip” ) is a term that means “substitute money”.  When you purchase HOPE Cards, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use HOPE Cards to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our organization.

How HOPE Cards generate revenue for you

The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non‑profit organizations to purchase large amounts of cash/gift cards from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers.  Because the cards are purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount.  Our organization buys the cards from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value.  The discount ‑ from two to fifteen percent or more –  is our organization’s revenue (½ goes to general operating fund; ½ goes toward tuition reduction and FIP hours).

HOPE Cards are "shopping cart fundraising”

Cash/gift cards are a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything.  Organization members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway.  Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with HOPE Cards.

Ask your HOPE Card coordinator listed below for the latest participating retailer list.  Then put your shopping dollars to work for our organization!
